Silvester und Neu Jahr

Happy New Year! We had a pretty nice one ourselves. First off, on Wednesday I went into town with the family and decided to take the opportunity to finally see the medieval library in St. Gallen. It was really quite interesting and they had books on display featuring music. It was interesting to see old medieval musical notation and they also had some sheet music from Mozart. There were several books at least 1000 years old handwritten and handpainted very elaborately and with gold leaf.

Yesterday in the afternoon we walked up Gäbris. It was all foggy, but at the top it broke through and it was a lovely view of all the mountains. We stopped and had a drink before heading down again. Then in the evening we walked to the town square for the little midnight celebration they were having. The church bells played a short little concert and then chimed at 12. Then some fireworks were set off and there was champagne and little snacks offered. It was quite nice.

Midnight!

Then this evening there was a New Year's concert at the church. It was a band that sang some folksy/soft rock tunes in dialect. It was quite nice.

Sorry, it's blurry
