My Robin Hood Review

So I got an unexpected day off today and spontaneously decided to go see a movie since I happened to see that they were playing Robin Hood (in English!), and I thought it looked like it had the potential to be a good movie so I went for it. Now I'm no film critic, but I felt the need to share my thoughts on the movie with you. If you have no interest in reading them then I give you full permission to stop reading this post now. So there are many words that could describe this movie, but one I fully did not expect was "cheesy." Yes, I said it, cheesy. I think it was trying too hard to be Gladiator reborn, and failed horribly (not to mention that there actually were some really fake cheesy moments that made me cringe). That's not to say it was a bad movie, because it was fairly entertaining, but at the end I was just like, what was the whole point of this movie? In my opinion there are three things that make Gladiator a good movie. 1. Good actors, which lucky for Robin Hood it also had (and not coincidentally a lot of the same actors, but unfortunately 1 out of 3 doesn't really do it). 2. An individually good villain. I mean Juaquin Phoenix did a pretty awesome job as the Caeser, but in Robin Hood I was a bit confused as to which of 3 people was the villain we were really supposed to hate. And then there was a moment when I was like, wait are they friends now? 3. It established the plot quickly so that ultimately we knew the goal of the hero. Unfortunately I spent the entirity of Robin Hood trying to figure out the heroes main goal and motives, and it wasn't until the very end of the movie that it was revealed that this was just a whole set up movie. I literally was wondering when is the whole steal from the rich thing going to come into play (and not to spoil the movie for you, but it doesn't). I also was really hoping to see some great action sequences involving Robin and a bow and arrow, and again I was dissapointed. I mean come on! It's Robin Hood, what's the point without the bow and arrow (not to say he doesn't use it, he just doesn't use it enough, and his whole archery skills really aren't played up enough either which is a real shame). So basically the movie failed to capture the spirit of Robin Hood that we all know and love (or at least I know and love, I don't really know about the rest of you). So I would recommend waiting for this one on DVD, then you can't be disappointed that you spent CHF 16 to see it in the theater. So I apologize for boring you with my amateur film critic ramblings.
