Day 12: Pythagoras Caves
We woke up early and headed to the Pythagoras Caves. These are the caves which Pythagoras (you know the guy who came up with a2 + b2 = c2) is supposed to have hidden and taught his students. It was a 3.5 km hike up with dirt and rocky roads, but we finally made it. Then there were more stairs up to the caves. Towards the top it became too difficult for Ryan, so I continued and encountered insanely steep stairs, but made it to the main caves. They were kind of creepy and really dark. I made it down again and started along the path to the other cave (where he was supposed to have lived). It soon became too difficult though and I literally hit a rock wall I was supposed to climb up, but I knew I wouldn't be able to do it, so I just said forget it and headed back down. Andrea got a good photo of me on that trail though. I'll have to get it from her. We stopped for some juice and souvenirs including a cup that if you fill above a certain line starts to drain out the bottom. Then we hiked back down again and encountered a mean looking barking dog that I managed to scare away by threatening to throw a rock. Then of course in the afternoon we went back to the beach again, what else?
